We are your “sunshine”!

Leilani Mobile Tan has launched!  I am very excited and a tad bit nervous about this new business venture that Heather and I are embarking on.  It seems like it is the “right’ time, we actually had both discussed doing this last summer and it inevitably ended up getting put on the shelf as just one of those “good ideas” that never come to be.  However, now that I am in school FULL time, trying desperately to get my bachelors degree finished by next spring so that I can start grad school in the fall of 2013, it has become clear that I had to get a job.  I also needed to finish school, and take care of the kids as it is not worth it for us to pay for childcare if I am working somewhere part-time.  So after a lot of research and a lot of planning, Leilani Mobile Tan was created!

Let’s face it, tans are sexy and beautiful and desired, but they are also dangerous and not very healthy for your skin.  According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “Tans are caused by harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning lamps, and if you have one, you’ve sustained skin cell damage.  No matter what you may hear at tanning salons, the cumulative damage caused by UV radiation can lead to premature skin aging (wrinkles, lax skin, brown spots, and more), as well as skin cancer. In fact, indoor ultraviolet (UV) tanners are 74 percent more likely to develop melanoma than those who have never tanned indoors.”  I myself am a testament to this fact.  I have skin cancer.  While it’s not melanoma, it is none the less an invasive disease that is physically scarring my body.  I have 3 basal cell lesions on my face, multiple ones on my shoulders, 3-4 on my chest and 3 on my lower legs.  I have no one but myself to blame, growing up in southern Alabama I was a beach worshipping teen that spent every second I could find, slathering myself in BABY OIL and baking myself on the hot, white sand of  the Gulf Shores beaches.  Then my senior year of high school I discovered the ease of the tanning bed.  The first time that I donned those cute little goggles and turned on those UV blue lights and laid on that cold plastic bed that quickly became hot, I was hooked.  I also got a horrible rash, I broke out in hives and was itching uncontrollably.  The people at the tanning salon and my doctor told me that I was probably allergic to the cleaning solution they used to wipe down the beds.  Not, that I may have UV poisoning and that tanning beds were dangerous.  I was undettered, and continued “tanning” 3-4 days a week well into my early late 20’s and even in my early 30’s.  There were even days that I laid out by the pool and then went to the tanning salon in the evening.  I have no doubt that I was addicted…it has been proven that there are endorphins released from tanning that are similar to other “highs” we get from other addictions.

I was first diagnosed over 14 years ago, I had a strange looking mole on my back that was biopsied.  It turned out to be a basal cell and I had a MOHS procedure done to remove it.  MOHS is a surgical method where the lesion is removed and the skin around it is also removed in small sections until it shows no cancer cells at the margins.  This is the type of surgery that I will be having done on Monday, the 30th.  I plan on sharing my experience with everyone, I think it is important that the effects of sun damage be shown.

Leilani Tan is all about promoting HEALTHY and SAFE tanning.  Our products are made with all natural ingredients and are organic.  We offer an anti-aging solution that is “enriched with Vitamin E, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C Liposomes that condition, and assist in minimizing skin aging free radicals, which contribute to long-term skin damage.  CoQ10 paired with Green & White Tea extracts provide well documented skin soothing antioxidant benefits. It delivers advanced moisturizing and skin care benefits via Phospholipid Liposome technology, in addition to inclusion of natural Aloe Vera extracts, one of the best products you can use for skin repair. This product also includes the newest powerful Anti-Aging complex Matrixyl 3000 (Pentapeptide-3) which has been hailed as “the new Botox” without the needle.”

  1. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Helped me SO much prepare for a BCC excision I needed on my top lip. I googled the entire internet and your pictures and information were the most informative. Plastic surgeons who specialise in skin cancer removal need to take a leaf from your page so parients know what to expect. Growing up in Australia in the 80’s there was no “care factor” from our parents on the dangers of burning, and wow did we burn, red raw all over, over and over again. In my case combine that with years of volunteer Lifesaving (though I was very proactive with sun care as an adult). But the damage was done. Theybsay its the sun damage in our younger years that comes back to bite us. I had a few BCC’s cold freezed off my neck, no big deal I thought. Had a tiny BCC excised/vut of my bicep reaulting in a large 5cm scar whichnstretched making it appear bigger. Than when I pointed out a dry dot of skin on my left upper lip (half way between nose and lip) to my doctor he had a good look but said it was just dry skin and to stop picking at it. 6 weeks later I went back and said it was still not healing. He took a biopsy and the results showed a BCC which unlike normal BCC’s which stay superficial, had gone down a pore. Itbrequired excision with a plastic surgeon to avoid an ugly scar. I had this surgery done under local yesterday and a biopsy taken of another spot on my upper right lip. Anyways your information helped so much I cant thank you enough. I hope your journey since has been not eventful. THANK YOU ☺
